Yes, you and I, ordinary unarmed citizens can play a big role in the fight against terrorism. And a large number of us will get an opportunity to do so by casting our votes in the next few days.
Ironically the day we have had the massive terrorist strike in Mumbai is also the day when V.P. Singh, former prime minister of India also died of prolonged illness. However his brief 1 year tenure is when India as a country started bending to terrorists. In what was apparently a stage managed, the then Union cabinet Home minister - Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's daughter was kidnapped. The big statesman that he was he thought it fitting to release 5 dreaded terrorists for his daughter. A clear sell out. What kind of leader was he who could not lead from the front and make any sacrifice for the larger cause of the country.
Thousands of ordinary civilians, estimates put the number over 64000 have since died from terrorist violence. Hundreds of army men and police officers have lost their lives. Yesterday senior Mumbai police officers Vijay Salaskar & Hemant Karkare lost their lives leading the operations against the terrorists from the front.
While our army officers and cops put their lives at stakes, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was not content with just releasing 5 terrorists. After forming a coalition government with the Congress, he started releasing terrorists which had been arrested and were in J&K prisons. All the while ignoring how many Army officers had lost their lives to arrest these terrorists.
This was followed by the Congress Chief Minister of the coalition Ghulam Nabi Azad who wanted to match Mufti Sayeed in his drive to release terrorists. Between the Congress-PDP combine over 200 terrorists and suspected terrorists under trial were released.
While all political parties are corrupt, but the Congress stoops to disguting levels to cling to power. Releasing terrorists is a case in point. Then the Congress even defies the Supreme court which had given the death sentence to Afzal Guru. And the Congress backed President of India Ms. Pratibha Patil has to think for years over what to do on the mercy petition.
A clear sign of what the Congress stands for. First joining hands with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to come to power, then not objecting to Sayeed releasing terrorists, then the Congress J&K Chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad releases terrorists, the UPA government then repealed the POTA (Prevention of Terrorists Act) in 2004, and finally the Congress backed President Ms.Pratibha Patil not agreeing with the supreme court on Afzal Guru’s hanging.
So what can you do. Elections are round the corner for both state and union governments.
Vote for the BSP
Vote for the BJP
Vote for the CPM/CPI
Vote for any party which can defeat the Congress
Make the Congress realize they can’t shed crocodile tears on lives lost to terrorism when their government releases terrorists.
